Single Storey Rear Extension, Cromer, Norfolk

Single Storey Extension, North Norfolk.

Project Location: Cromer, North Norfolk

A single-storey extension built off the rear elevation of a small terrace house located in Cromer, North Norfolk. The design intent was to create a structure which contrasted against the existing, allowing the extension to be independant and take more of a contemporary approach. Our client and I were very keen to use an alternative material upon the extension due to the existing bricks being a type unable to match and discontinued. Siberian Larch was therefore proposed due to its natural silvering tones which we felt would work seamlessly with the aged brickwork and the lead roofing proposed for the extension. Large doors with wrap-around glazing lead out into a small courtyard with a level threshold incorporated to allow the inside and outdoor spaces to still be used as one. The timber construction allows for highly insulated panels, creating a sustainable build.
