Single Storey Extension Rear, Sheringham, North Norfolk

A small rear single storey extension for a local builder in Sheringham, North Norfolk. The extension serves as a garden room directly off the main living area, allowing our client to enjoy the landscape no matter the weather! Sterne Design, Architecture Studio, Cromer, Norfolk.

Single Storey Rear Extension, North Norfolk.

Project Location: Sheringham, North Norfolk.

Sterne Design was appointed to assist a local Norfolk builder with the design of a small garden room extension to their home in Sheringham, North Norfolk. The brief was to improve the feel of their main living room by providing a view through to the garden as well as improving the amount of natural light which could enter the internal space. A minimal clean aesthetic for the proposed extension was achieved by using a smooth rendered finish with corner bi-folding doors which extend back during the warmer months, extending the living room into the garden.

A 3d visualisation is always produced as part of my service to not only help my clients visualise their proposals but to also assist with any future planning applications or committee meetings. With any planning application it is always best to show the council that all items have been thought through prior to making a formal submission.

Again, this sketch is one which was produced during the design stage to consider how the light may enter the room and how each space would work with one another. In order to make sure a property flows well, you must evaluate the building as a whole and not purely just in an overhead format. This is why the sketch scheme is such a fundamental part of the progress and allows both myself and my clients to talk through every detail, make amendments and discuss, providing each project with the attention they deserve.

The brief was to create an extension which held a strong connection with the outdoors space, yet still providing space for furniture and artwork to be on show. The design was therefore carefully considered to meet my clients needs and brief.

Conceptual Hand Sketch

A hand sketch which was produced during the ‘sketch stage’ of the project, considering the use of materials, form and configuration. The ability to quickly get ideas down onto paper allows my thoughts to be presented to the client almost immediately as for some a 2d plan is rather difficult to understand or visualise.
